After six years of hiding out in subways and the underground, well not really, the Beastie Boys of come back and hit the streets running with a chart topping album that is making a major stir in the market. I have only heard clips from this cd, I HAVE NOT heard it in full so my knowledge of the musical aspects are a little shallow. But what I did notice was the typical Beastie style mix through the clips I heard. This is the one cool thing about the Boys is that you know what you are getting and the sound and musical quality is usually in a league of its own. There were a lot of similarities to the old school Beastie Boy's I grew up with in the 80's.
Lyrically is where this album takes a turn from the Boy's I grew up with and that is this cd was hit with a PA label and for good reason with more than 35 offensive words and titles like "Hey F*** You.". They do a great rhyme of hitting the rhymes and falling back to one another...almost like triplets that can finish one another's sentence before it even starts. Most of the topics on this cd are party type mixes with lots of rhymes and Beastie attitude and flair. This cd also takes a lot of shots at President Bush and our countries current policies in Iraq. I personally hate when bands go this direction especially since the latest Gallup poll showed 95% of people are NOT affected by a musicians stance when voting. So, why do they do it? Like many, it gives them something to rap about and is a popular stance with many to hate W. There are also a few references to alcohol and such but nothing that seemed over the top other than the extensive dropping of f bombs.
I'm just not a fan of these guys anymore and kind of grew out of the Beastie flav. So considering the language and the left wing shots, I tossed this one back in the pile.
"Right Right Now Now"
When I get on you scream "Hoo Tight!"
Rockin' this flow I could go all night
I'm not here to fight, or incite
I'm like the beach in the Bahamas make you feel alright
I'm getting kind of tired of the situation
The US attacking other nations
And narration, on every station
False election's got me losing my patience
I'm a funky-ass Jew and I'm on my way
And yes I got to say f*** the KKK
And oh yeah hey, how about today?
If you want to set it off then let me hear you say
"It Takes Time To
Build"
If you don't like the news then press eject
Baby Davis getting older can't take a rain check
It's time to let'em know what we expect
Stop building SUV's strung out on OPEC
Hold up wait up you know we come correct
You wanna change things up, well hey just get set
It's easier to sit back than stick out your neck
It's easier to break things than build it correct
We've got a president we didn't elect
The Kyoto treaty he decided to neglect
And still the US just wants to flex
Keep doin' that wop we gonna break our necks
"Rhyme The Rhyme
Well"
Now my name is Adrock I've got a story to tell
When I rock the crowd the crowd we all yell
And when I get the feeling I feel the feel swell
And when I start to rhyme well I rhyme the rhyme well
Oh you didn't know I got the flow
I could sing, rap, dance in just one show
With the cornbread stuffin' with the Blimpie Bluffin
Mother f***in' Yosi with the g**d*** muffins
Hey could you please pass me the peas
And let me get a tissue if you think your're gonna sneeze
I'm the player and the coach I'm no roach
I bought my grandma a brand new broach
