Offensive language: 4 (D*** 3 times in a song, and a** in one song)

Avril Lavigne is a 17 yr old Canadian that just wants to do her own thing. She doesn't do the trendy Brittney or Christina looks but prefers to dress with the punk style. I only give this CD a "PG" rating. There a few "sexual" references in a few songs but some are really hard to tell. Only two songs have any offensive lyrics, "I'm with You" contains three of them (d**n). I don't really know much about her other than what I saw on her lyrics and her website. I think if you have teens that are listening to her then it opens up some easy conversation dealing with sex. Ask your teen, "Would you change your mind tomorrow?" We hope not.
Just a teenage
break-up song and I like how she mentioned a hug instead of something
sexual like many performers like her.
"Losing Grip"
Am I just some chick you place beside you to take somebody's place
when you turn around can you recognize my face you used to love me,
you used to hug me
But that wasn't the case
Everything wasn't ok I was left to cry there
waiting outside there grinning with a lost stare
That's when I decided
A really cool song
about how a preppy girl thinks she is too good for a skater guy and he
ends up becoming a mega skate star and having the big bucks. The
only thing I could give question to is one phrase where she is now
dating the guy and says "How we rock each others world."
This is normally used as a sexual reference.
"Sk8er Boi"
He's just a boy
And I'm just a girl
Can I make it any more obvious
We are in love
Haven't you heard
How we rock each others world
I may be totally
reading too much into the song..but it seems to be about a lonely girl
that is looking to hook up with anyone that will just give her the
chance.
"I'm With You"
It's a d*** cold night
Trying to figure out this life
Won't you take me by the hand
take me somewhere new
I don't know who you are
But I... I'm with you
I'm with you
Seems to be about a
girl that does not want to possibly have sex with her boyfriend but she
may change her mind "tomorrow." The reason I think this
may be talking about sex is because a phrase she says, "I know I'm
not ready." I don't like how the song ends when she says,
"Tomorrow it may change."
"Tomorrow"
Hey yeah yeah, hey yeah yeah, and I know I'm not ready,
Hey yeah yeah, hey yeah yeah, maybe tomorrow
And I wanna believe you,
When you tell me that it'll be ok,
Yeah I try to believe you,
Not today, today, today, today, today...
Tomorrow it may change
The song deals with
her letting a guy see her from the inside and not just her outer looks.
The song does have a sense of sexual overtone though referring to covers
falling away and it feels so right.
"Naked"
But then you came around me
The walls just disappeared
Nothing to surround me
And keep me from my fears
I'm unprotected
See how I've opened up
Oh, you've made me trust
Because I've never felt like this before
I'm naked
Around you
Does it show?
You see right through me
And I can't hide
I'm naked
Around you
And it feels so right!
