Wow, this past year Geffen decides to drop Pillar and they pick up this? You have got to be kidding me. Ok, if you don't know who this girl is, you do know her sister. Ashlee is the younger sister, Jessica Simpson. I could say all sorts of mean stuff but we are a Christian site so I will refrain haha. She now even has her own reality show on MtV but it will more than likely be a one season wonder. This cd has already hit it big on the charts and is the #2 most purchased item on amazon.com right now.
Musically this cd is about as basic as it
gets...take Avril, Britney and Jessica and you have the basic music
styles of Ashlee Simpson's band. If you are looking for your basic
radio pop and rock then this is it. Mixed with a few ballads and
such and you have your "mix."
Vocally, Ashlee is again ok. She has a catchy voice at times with
a little bit of grit which gives her a niche with the other pop rock
gals out there. I honestly think the ONLY reason this cd is out is
because of who she is. I compare this with Kelly Osbourne getting
a record deal. Lyrically, she tries to appear as the bad girl of
the Simpson clan but comes out pretty mellow. She uses the word
hell a few times to try to gain an image and drops the word s*** on
"Autobiography" There are also a couple sexual overtones
to a few songs. She even has a song about her childhood and being
jealous of Jessica, "Shadow." The vast majority of the
songs are the love em and leave em type boyfriend/girlfriend routine.
Nothing about this cd stands out in the least.
Don't waste your money on this one as we throw it back in with a 'pg'
rating.
So, those of you that are mad at me...what did you expect haha. Sorry guys and gals, I have to be honest in these reviews and sometimes the truth hurts.
"Shadow"
I was six years old
When my parents went away
I was stuck inside a broken life
I couldn't wish away
She was beautiful
She had everything and more
And my escape was hiding out and running for the door
"La La"
You can dress me up diamonds
You can dress me up in dirt
You can throw me like a line-man
I like it better when it hurts
Oh, I have waited here for you
I have waited
You make me wanna la la
in the kitchen on the floor
I'll be your french maid
Where I'll meet you at the door
I'm like an alley cat
Drink the milk up, I want more
You make me wanna
You make me wanna scream
"Unreachable"
So don't make me cry
Cuz this love don't feel so right
You cant push a river
You cant make me fall
but you can make me unreachable
Sometimes love is addiction
Sometimes it hurts like hell
And sometimes you just cannot get enough
You can't make me love you,
Any more than I do
But you can make me unreachable
