After selling 30 million albums worldwide,
Creed has called it quits and its members have chosen to pursue new
creative directions. Guitarist/ songwriter Mark Tremonti states,
“After all Creed achieved professionally, I felt that I needed to
refocus on the goals that I had personally. One of those goals was to
get back to my rock and roll roots. After Creed took a break, band-mate
Scott Phillips and I started to jam together again and realized that we
both shared the same vision and were surprisingly anxious to get back
out there and start doing it again.” The evolution continued when
original Creed bassist Brian Marshall, who was not part of Creed’s
Weathered album and had been working as a musician/ producer at his home
studio, got a call from Tremonti. (www.aterbridge.com)
Well, almost everyone knows that Creed broke up. For those of you who
have played "Madden 2005" (an NFL Football game for PC, XBOX,
PS2, and Gamecube) you will have already heard their first single off
their debut album "One Day Remains". The song is called
"Open Your Eyes". After hearing this song over, and over, and
over again, the song has finally grown on me (Is it just me or does the
sound of "Open Your Eyes" remind you of Creed's "My
Sacrifice"?).
Musically, Alter Bridge sounds like Creed (regardless of the increased
number of guitar solos). Overall, the band doesn't have one
distinct sound. Some songs like the title track "One Day
Remains" stay quiet and mostly acoustic versus a song like
"Watch Your Words" that is pretty hard hitting and has
somewhat of a metal sound in the beginning. So, the sound on this
album is really mid-point as some areas hit hard and some areas stay
quiet.
If you go by lyrics, Alter Bridge sounds
like...Alter Bridge. Though Alter Bridge IS NOT a christian band, some
of their lyrics would lead you to believe that they are. It may take 10
years to find out if Alter Bridge lead singer Myles Kennedy is or isn't
christian, as it took Ex-Creed front-man Scott Stapp nearly a decade to
find out if he was a Christian. My only problem with Alter Bridge's
album is the that they like to use their chorus as a filler for most of
their songs and it's only 11 tracks long. If you look above you will see
that there is two offensive topics. One relates to the subject
matter of drinking and comes within the song "Burn It Down"
and the song also uses the word "hell" which some find
offensive. Overall, I still give the album a 'PG' rating. This
album was somewhat a change for the better. I won't really make a
recommendation to buy this album or not, but if you were a Creed fan
from before, it's a must-have.
"Burn It Down"
Drank so much last night
I think that I drowned
But now my cup is empty
No one has seen my will around
Now my heart is aching
Sometimes I fall asleep for days
But my bed is empty
I know I am too set in my ways
Tell all I am ok.
"Find The Real"
There's a face I put on all my life
The face of an angel,
I look in the mirror
Only to find
The face of a stranger.
And all that I've taken, I hunger for more
Cause I'm selfish and all I'm left with is a crown
of thorns and I'm helpless
"Down To My Last"
And to the world to which we sing,
Want to try to do us in
I remember your name and I know your face
Can't forgive and can't erase
I was never the right one
To bear the weight of something fueled by words
I'd learn to hate
You were always the only
To help me see that to love is to shine
In your world, blind.
"Watch Your Words"
Watch your words
Or your words might drown you
And cure my wounds
And the light will blind you
To truly see well, you must have faith
Oh the righteous they can't wait
A saving grace, that we all know
Let us pray, let us hold on
