Adema
Unstable

Arista Records, August 2003
Offensive words: seven
Genre: hard rock/modern rock
Check out the Christian band Skillet
I don't think I will ever
understand the record labels rating system. This cd has seven
offensive words and one "f" bombs which is often a sure avenue
of getting a parental advisory label. This is Adema's second full
release and has the critics doing nothing but complimenting the bands
growth and maturity. Adema is a straight up hard band with some
industrial influences with no major drum loops or keyboards. The
band got it's attention on the MTV reality show, "Real World,"
and have had a decent following ever since.
Mark Chavez, lead singer, hits some issues that really hit home many of
the listeners. Many of the songs have a very positive outlook and
are optimistic in expression. Songs deal with the love for a son,
drug abuse, domestic abuse, lose of a loved one and relationships.
My one major complaint with the album is the fact that Chavez finds it
necessary to repeat phrases sometimes more than needed. For
example, the first song of the CD is "Co-dependant" and he
says the title then some 28 times in the song. Seems to be a bit
of an overkill at times. Then on the song "Unstable" he
says that phrase some 18 times. The song "Rip
The Heart Out Of Me", he says the phrase 17 times.
Overall, this is a very positive band but due to the language I would
check out the band Skillet. I can' say what is on the extras on
this CD and that we be where some of the ratings that it was given come
from. But from reading the lyrics, I give the CD a
"PG/PG13" rating.
Dealing with the tough
issue of domestic violence.
"Stand Up"
Stand Up, Stand Up
He's a drunk and abusing
Stand Up, Stand Up
He thinks that you'll never leave him
Stand Up, Stand Up
I wont let him get near you
Stand Up, Stand Up
Next time's your fault when he hurts you
"So
Fortunate"
I never thought I was strong enough
To handle raising my own son
You'll always fear what you've never done
I hope he'll know me when I come home
Nothing's gonna change my love for you
I love my child
He's got his mother's smile
I'm so fortunate
So fortunate
Life can get tight
But I will make it right
I'm so fortunate
So fortunate
So often even as
Christians we feel like this song but we must always remember is God
never turns away, we do.
"Stressin' Out"
The weight of the world has been put on my shoulders
I looked in the mirror and know that I'm older
I try to escape but the rain makes it colder
Why do I let all our problems take over?
There's nothing I can do
There's nothing I can say
We need to try to find a right way
Stress me out, stress me out
God has turned his back on me
Stress me out, stress me out
There's nothing there for us to say
Stress me out, stress me out
God has turned his back
"Let Go"
I'm sitting on the edge of the water
Contemplating my strange life
The sun starts to fall into the ground
A breeze picks up off the waves
And everything is fine
Let go of all of your pain
I know that I am not alone
Everyone makes mistakes
And starts to learn with time
I am content with who I am
There's nothing more I need to say
I'm happy with my life
Let go of all of your pain
Let go of all of your pain
Let go and you'll escape
You'll be happy with yourself
Let go of all of your pain
